Where was the media when Teena Marie was living?

I like teena marie, according to yahoo front page she wrote a song for president obama, she appeared on a number of talk shows. and she made one last album. its an article about her on yahoo news page. but i was curious when they mentioned her mentor they said he name was james but they are talking about Rick James. so why didn't they say rick james was her mentor?
