Just got orange wondering when to get staff?

hi! im doing shaolin kungfu and sometimes yellow belts get staffs but only sometimes. i didnt. and then theres orange belts who are probably mostly getting staff ( i think) cause i didnt see any fist forms on the orange belt and i always see orange belts with staffs. when i did the test one time i didnt scream while hitting so he seemed pretty dissapointed. i just got my orange belt and remembered that there was another orange belt the other day that just became an orange belt and immediately got his staff. So, im wondering if i need to get my parents to tell them that they approve of me using a staff or what?
