Car keeps shutting off?

Ok, so this is becoming a serious issue. I have 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 and for the past few weeks it has been just shutting off while driving. The engine goes off and the warning lights come on and I lose power steering. So I coast it to the side of the road and put it in park and try to start it, and it usually takes a few minutes of trying before it starts. It may do this a couple of times a day. I can tell its about to happen because I lose momentary power in my accelerator and then the engine will shut off entirely. I have no idea what could be the cause. Something electrical? Any insight on this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
